Alan Rock's Trivia

Q: Today is American Idol Day. That popular TV show debuted on June 11, 2002. Who was the first American Idol?
A: Kelly Clarkson.
Q:What is the oldest living animal species on earth?

A: Cyanobacterias are the oldest known living system in the world. They originated 2.8 billion years ago and the first ever microbe to produce oxygen via photosynthesis. In that way they became a part of converting Earth’s atmosphere into an oxidizing one. Cyanobacterias are also known as green-clue bacteria. The unicellular cyanobacterias reproduce through microfission.

Q: Windmills always turn counter-clockwise, unless they’re in what country?

A: Ireland. It is thought that the phenomenon called the Corlollis Effect, is responsible. The Coriolis Effect is the observed curved path of moving objects relative to the surface of the Earth. Hurricanes are good visual examples. Hurricane air flow (winds) moves counter-clockwise in the northern hemisphere and clockwise in the southern hemisphere. This is due to the rotation of the Earth. The Coriolis force assists in setting the circulation of a hurricane into motion by producing a rightward (clockwise) deflection that sets up a cyclonic (counterclockwise) circulation around the hurricane low pressure.

Q: One inch of rain is equal to how many inches of snow?
A: 10
INTERESTING FACT: Where is the longest time that a place remained without rain? A:  It was in Arica, Chile – from October, 1903 to January, 1918 – 14 years!
